Ghana – Volta Lake
Flooded in 1965 by the construction of the Akosombo Dam, Lake Volta is one of the largest reservoirs on the planet. Triton developed and operated a 350,000 hectare concession on Lake Volta from 2011 to 2015. Operating 2 SHARC™ Harvesters, Triton harvested thousands of trees and maintained certification through the Rainforest Alliance Chain of Custody program. Harvested timber was processed in Triton’s lakeside sawmill complex and our lumber products were sold within Ghana and around the world.
Triton’s business on Lake Volta had multiple positive local impacts through creation of over 100 local jobs to clearing trees from ferry channels creating a safe passage-way through the flooded forest.
